Drug addiction has been a phenomenon throughout modern history. People can become addicted to depressants, stimulants and opioids very easily. There are many contributing factors that have caused the problem of drug addiction to grow in the 20th century. Modernized agriculture practices, advances in drug accessibility, upgrades in biochemistry and alarming increases in the recommendation of drug therapy advocated by medical professionals. The drug treatment clinics have become necessary to combat this problem.

Cost

Another reason that drug addictions have increased in number is improved manufacturing methods. New, synthetic drug compounds have greatly amplified routine use of drugs by individuals. People of any race, age or economic status are susceptible to developing a drug habit. Research shows the total cost of substance abuse in the United States including productivity, health, and crime-related costs exceed 600 billion dollars every year.

Social Costs

The impact that drug addiction has on modern society is staggering. There are many consequences society must deal with relating to drug addiction. These problems include family disintegration, academic failure, lost employment, domestic violence, and child abuse.

Counsel

When addicted, individuals can develop an insatiable appetite, regardless of the harm they reap upon themselves. The need for their particular drug of choice becomes so over whelming that it takes over all thoughts and a person is unable to function. This is an addiction and required intervention and treatment in order to bring back any sort of normalcy.

Risk Factors

Not unlike many psychological disorders, an individual’s likelihood to develop a drug addiction is based on varying factors. Individuals suffering from depression, attention-deficit disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, for example, foster a greater chance of developing a drug dependency at some point in their lifetime. Environmental circumstances such as a person’s upbringing, family influence, and exposure to peers that encourage drug usage would also play a role in the likelihood of one’s potential drug consumption. It has been studied and reported that once a person has embarked on the path of recreationally usage genetics can then factor in as to whether or not an individual will become chemically reliant on a drug.

Science

Research shows addiction may be greatly influenced by specific, inherited traits, and studies have determined men are twice as likely as women to develop an addiction to drugs. While surely a problem that seems to be at the forefront of our collective conscience, it has become increasingly unclear whether laws against drug use do anything substantial to stem usage or dependency. There are womens program to help.

Selecting a young adult rehabilitation facility for a loved one can be difficult. So whether seeking help for a loved one or seeking help for yourself there are many things to consider. These are in addition to the normal questions and considerations of seeking inpatient care for anyone. All aspects must be carefully considered.

Type Of Treatment

One question that needs to be answered is whether they need inpatient or outpatient. Some of the considerations for deciding this is how severe the problem is, whether there is anyone available as support, the ability of the patient to be consistent in treatment goals, and how much money and/or insurance is available for funding. These questions must be answered regardless of the age of the person seeking help.

Factors

Family dynamics and support are important considerations as well. If the family cannot be depended on for support, then the only option left might well be inpatient care. However, with a strong family support system and good counseling, outpatient care might be a good option. There must be a strong commitment by the young person in question, however, for outpatient to work.

Treatment Styles

There are boarding school style facilities, which address school and adds psychiatric and addiction issues as well. Wilderness style, or outdoor fitness, programs are another options. They are rigorous and focus more on physical fitness for treatment. Some are even like a stay at a luxury hotel or spa. There are also facilities that are more like psychiatric hospitals, with greater medical management than the others.

Costs

Any treatment option can be effective. Choices are based on preferences and what is affordable to the one seeking the care. Consideration should definitely be given to what the person receiving the care desires, as well as their ability to be involved in a particular option. If there is the desire to go on to college and/or pursue a career, then the boarding school option might be best. Most options are very minimally concerned with academics when addressing emotional and addiction issues. This could cause a deficit in educational opportunities, adversely affecting the ability to get into college.

Family Dynamics

More intensive care (residential drug rehabilitation) may be needed if the addiction is severe, if emotional issues are present, and/or if the family is dysfunctional. In this setting, the emotional issues are more fully addressed. In the event of severe emotional involvement, it may be necessary to delay attention to educational or physical issues and address the emotional ones first.

Holistic Approaches

The wilderness or fitness style approaches may well be beneficial to some. The focus on surviving in the wilderness, or the intense physical activity, may help the individual focus on something beside the addictions that are controlling them. The intense activity releases chemicals in the brain that help to give that euphoria and good feeling that sometimes drive addictions.

There are so many weight loss programs currently on the market, sometimes it is hard to keep track of all the new ones that come out. Programs that claim to help people easily lose weight are everywhere. However, usually, they are scams that promise the world and never really deliver on anything. The Body of Fire program though is not one of these. It employs only successful exercises and tips to help you permanently lose weight and develop healthier eating habits. It is for these reasons and many others that this program is one of the best out there.

Why It Works

This program is different from others in that it is commonly used by many successful celebrities and star athletes to keep their bodies in the best possible shape year round. It cuts through all of the useless tactics other programs use, and emphasizes only workouts and meal plans that have been proven to work beyond a shadow of a doubt. The Body of Fire program has worked for many people and can help you achieve your unique fitness goals in a short period of time.

Effectiveness

One of the things that make this program so incredibly effective is its ease of use. It clearly tells the user what they need to do each and every day in order for them to lose weight and gain muscle. It does this, mainly, by tricking your body into working harder than it ever has before. If you stick to the meal plan the program provides, your body will transform into a weight burning machine very quickly. You will be amazed at how much more energy you will have during your workouts on this program.

Success Rates

The instructions that come with this program are very clearly laid out for its users. It doesn’t have any secrets in it that people do not already know. Hard work and a healthy diet are what are required of people who want to lose weight and put one muscle. This program gives its users step by step instructions to help them do exactly that. One of the benefits to losing weight the healthy way is that you will develop habits that will make it easier to not only get great results, but maintain them.

Benefits

There are so many perks for a person who chooses to use the Body of Fire weight loss system. First, they will look better than ever before. While that is important, it is not as crucial as the fact that you will also begin to feel better than you ever have in your life. You will sleep better at night, think more clearly during work, and have more energy than ever before. This is a high quality weight loss program, if properly followed, that can transform your life for the better. It is well worth considering this program if you or someone you know is sincere about getting healthy.

This is the program you have been waiting for if you are tired of feeling lazy and out of shape. Following the principles outlined in the Body of Fire program will have an individual on the way to a better body as soon as they begin using it. It is understandable to be skeptical about a program that promises so much to its users. However, one look at the customer testimonials of this program and you will be convinced. Another good weight loss program is the Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle review program. Both programs promote healthy weight loss through exercise and eating right.

Undergoing group alcohol counseling in a drug rehabilitation setting can be useful for patients in many ways as part of drug treatment. This type of assistance allows people who are receiving treatment to see that they are not alone with their issues as a patient sorts through his or her problems. The aid at a treatment center may come in the form of group therapy or one-on-one consultation with a trained professional.

Treatment

Patients initially enrolled in a center may be afraid of not being able to handle all the things happening in his or her life. This may be where therapy plays a critical role, as other patients can help with the adjustment period and the person realizes that he or she is not alone in facing change. Routines can be established during time in treatment, and the therapy can start to offer a framework for discussions on addiction and recovery.

Consequences Of Addiction

These meetings for counseling may be the first opportunity a patient has to sit down and give some thought to his or her past behavior. The road of addiction may start to become clear during discussions with others, or just listening to what other patients have to say about what led them to seek treatment. This can be enlightening as patients may see similarities between other patients’ stories and their own.

Therapy

More strategies for coping can unfold as the discussions build during these sessions. Patients may begin to recognize harmful behavior patterns in others and in themselves. These types of talks may evolve into ideas among patients in ways to help each other, and in turn, help themselves in the process during time in rehab.

Changes

Keeping a journal may be part of the therapy and counseling sessions, in which patients may share some of their writings as a cathartic process for healing. These daily writing sessions, perhaps part of the person’s rehab routine, can help in exploring changes occurring in rehab, as well as past problems that may have led to the initial addiction.

Options

Counseling sessions with a therapist can be another component in treatment during rehab. These sessions may not be as free form as a group session, with the trained counselor keeping the patient focused and on topic to learn more about addiction. These sessions may help a patient understand more about how addiction occurs and how to move beyond it with personal lifestyle changes.

Aftercare

When the patient is ready to leave the drug rehab treatment facility, counseling sessions may continue as part of extended treatment. These follow-up meetings can be beneficial to help support the patient as he or she continues to make lifestyle changes and adopt new ways of dealing with problems to avoid addictive tendencies. The discussions can help a patient sort through any lingering issues.

Often the best travel experiences are those which catch us by surprise. I spend a fair bit of time researching and planning my trips, but love to stumble onto unexpected and memorable events. Like when our visit to Kandy in Sri Lanka coincided with the Perahera and we enjoyed the parade of elephants and performers. Or after a long tiring day of canoeing in the British Columbia rain, watching the skies clear to one of the most memorable sunsets ever. Or watching a perfect sunrise from the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. These unexpected experiences are an important part of what makes traveling so great.

And so it was when Sylvia and I visited the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor for the first time. This site had been on our travel bucket list for a long time, not only because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site but because it is such an American icon, a symbol of freedom, a special gift of enduring friendship between the United States and France (where it was designed and crafted). As we were traveling through New York on our trip from Southern Africa, we took advantage of being in the city to do a little sight-seeing. I made ferry reservations for Liberty Island as soon as they became available and was also able to snag 2 tickets for a hike up to the Statue’s Crown. So the day after we returned to America from Johannesburg, we took the subway to Battery Park at the south end of Manhattan for our ferry ride through New York Harbor to Liberty Island.

The ferry ride is lovely and provides memorable views of Manhattan, New Jersey, Ellis Island and finally, looming ever closer, Liberty Island! When we landed we were surprised to find that the day of our visit was the 125th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. I had not known this when I made our reservations and we were treated to one of those special travel moments. The day was one of celebration, with free birthday cake and Cokes, bands playing, a 21 gun salute, and many special presentations and honors throughout the day, including to the men and women of our military. This alone would have made for a very special day but as it turned out, we were also one of the last 250 people who would visit the crown of the Statue for two years, as the interior of the Statue of Liberty was being closed to the public the following day for a two year remodel and upgrade.

The journey to the crown was fantastic. A lot of stairs and climbing, but we took our time, stopping often to enjoy details of the interior of the statue — the sturdy metal skeleton, extensive riveting, and finally the string of small windows that let’s you know you’ve reached the top. The Crown is a fairly small place, able to comfortably handle only 6-8 people at a time, so you can see why they limit the visitors to only a few hundred in a day. Two rangers were there to answer questions and look after everything. We took in the views and enjoyed the experience, knowing it unlikely we’d ever be back here again.

It was on our way down that we stopped on the statue’s pedestal to enjoy the views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island and New Jersey. Later we walked the perimeter of the island (which is fairly small), all the while taking in the different perspectives of the Statue which remains magnificent from almost every angle. From the many photos in the accompanying slide show you’ll see what I mean by this.

The bulk of the day was spent at Liberty Island before we caught the ferry to Ellis Island where we finished out the afternoon. This is a worthwhile stop. It’s good to have the audio-guide to help you understand the role of this large complex. Between 1892 and 1954, twelve million immigrants (mostly from Europe) arrived at Ellis Island to apply for residency in the United States. You have a chance to retrace the steps of these people from their arrival, entry into the Registry Room on the second floor, walk down the Stairs of Separation and visit an exhibit outlining some of the hardships encountered by some those who were processed here. The National Park Service has done a nice job preparing these exhibits and we found this a nice end to a very memorable day.

Oxycontin is classified as an opiate (narcotic) analgesic. It works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain. The drug is available in combination with acetaminophen, aspirin and ibuprofen. Oxycontin comes as a solution (liquid), concentrate solution, tablet, capsule, and extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. The only thing that can help an addiction is oxycontin rehabilitation.

Oxycontin

First synthesized in 1916 at the University of Frankfurt, oxycontin was developed as an alternative to heroin. The thinking was the new drug would be less addictive. Oxycontin is prescribed as a pain medication that is taken every 12 hours. Oxycontin tablets usually contain a controlled, time-release formula.

Side Effects

Common side effects of oxycontin use include memory loss, fatigue, headache, dry mouth and anxiety. It has also been reported that prolonged use causes dimness in vision. Rarely, the drug can cause impotence and decreased testosterone. Compared with morphine, however, oxycontin causes less nausea and respiratory complications.

Rehabilitation

If a person consumes oxycontin for more than a couple of weeks they will naturally develop a dependency to it. This occurs because the person’s brain gets accustomed to receiving it. If a person develops a dependency to oxycontin it can become very hard to overcome. At this point it is necessary for an individual to seek medical treatment. Withdrawal symptoms will be painful and require medical supervision

Counseling

In order to obtain abstinence addicts must overcome physical dependency. It is important that oxycontin addicts enter a rehabilitation center so that they may be provided with counseling. This process is medically assisted to guarantee detoxification. Recovering oxycontin addicts will need to be under constant watch to help reduce the pains of withdrawal.

Aftercare

There are a couple different aftercare treatment options for those who have completed initial detoxification. Most people choose to finish their recovery in a residential setting. They take part in continued oxycontin medical detoxification programs. However, some people think they are able to complete their recovery in an outpatient setting.
